Nothing comes closer to receiving Arjuna Award, says Indian hockey star Jarmanpreet Singh

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS) The Indian men's hockey team defender Jarmanpreet Singh expressed his elation after receiving the Arjuna Award from President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Friday and said, "Nothing comes closer to this feeling". Jarmanpreet was instrumental in the Indian team's second successive bronze medal finish at the Olympics in Paris last year. India beat Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match, coming back from a goal down.

Women's HIL: Soorma Club hope to maintain momentum in clash with Delhi SG Pipers

Rourkela, Jan 16 (IANS) With two wins from two matches under their belt, Soorma Hockey Club will take on Delhi SG Pipers on Friday in a much-anticipated clash in the Women's Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, hoping to maintain the momentum when they play at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium here. So far, JSW Soorma Hockey Club have won both their matches in the league -- a 4-1 win against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers and a 2-1 victory against Odisha Warriors. Delhi SG Pipers, on the other hand, have lost both their encounters so far.

Nilam Sanjeep Xess (33`) and Lee Morton (59`) scored the goals for Team Gonasika while Pawan Rajbhar scored Soorma Hockey Club’s solitary goal.

Ranchi, Jan 14 (IANS) Kathryn Mullan scored the lone goal as Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Delhi SG Pipers in the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday. Kathryn Mullan struck in the 23rd minute for Bengal Tigers, against the run of play, in the second quarter and the Tigers fought tooth and nail to hold on to the one-goal lead for the rest of the game.
