India curbs jute imports from Bangladesh as dumping hurts local farmers and mills

New Delhi, June 28 (IANS) India on Saturday decided to impose port restrictions, with immediate effect, on the import of jute and allied fibre products from Bangladesh to check influx of cheap, subsidised imports from neighbouring country which have depressed prices, hurt farmers’ incomes, and led to underutilised capacity in Indian jute mills leading to closures and unemployment.

Kolkata law college rape: Police take sole witness security guard into custody

Kolkata, June 28 (IANS) A security guard attached to the law college at Kasba in South Kolkata where the rape of a female student of the same college was committed on the evening of June 25, has been taken into custody by the Investigating Officials probing the case, Kolkata Police confirmed on Saturday. The security guard also happens to be the sole witness of the crime as per the police complaint filed by the victim.
