Galle (Sri Lanka), Jan 29 (IANS) After reaching the historic 10,000-run milestone with a single, Steve Smith went on to score his 35th Test century and helped Australia reach 330/2 on Day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka here on Wednesday. Smith was batting on 104 at stumps with Usman Khawaja unbeaten on 147, having anchored the Australian innings, raising 195 runs for the third wicket partnership.

Patel believes Pandya’s slow-paced innings played a key role in India failing to chase down a target of 172. India landed in early trouble at 48/3 in the Powerplay when Pandya walked in to steady the innings. However, instead of keeping the scoreboard moving, the Indian all-rounder struggled for fluency, consuming a significant number of dot balls.

Geoff Allardice to step down as ICC CEO

Dubai, Jan 28 (IANS) The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed that Geoff Allardice of Australia has decided to step down as ICC Chief Executive. Allardice, a former cricketer and administrator, joined the ICC in 2012 as ICC General Manager of Cricket, joining from Cricket Australia where he held the role of Cricket Operations Manager. He was appointed as the ICC's CEO in November 2021, having previously served as the acting CEO for eight months.
