Olympic badminton champion Huang to retire from Chinese national team

Beijing (China), Jan 1 (IANS) Badminton Olympic champion Huang Yaqiong announced on social media on Wednesday that she has submitted her resignation to the Chinese national team and officially bid farewell to her national team career. "I've been greeted with countless encouragements from everyone, hoping that I could continue my career. But actually, since the run-up for the Paris Olympics, I've already regarded the Paris Olympics as my last one," Huang wrote in her post.

Raghu upset top seed and Guwahati Masters winner Sathish Kumar K. to set up a men’s singles summit clash with former champion Mithun Manjunath in the 86th Senior National Badminton Championship here on Monday. Raghu defeated Sathish 21-17, 21-17 in the semifinal while Manjunath ended the run of Roshan Chouhan 21-15, 21-13.

The Tamil Nadu shuttler looked in trouble after losing the opening game against Sen but bounced back to win 12-21, 21-19, 21-15 and will now take on Raghu M on Sunday for a place in the quarterfinals.

The women's duo also made it to the semifinals of the Syed Modi India International.
