Former Afghan President Karzai raises alarm over UN report on education crisis

Kabul, April 30 (IANS) Former Afghanistan President, Hamid Karzai, on Thursday raised serious concerns over a recent analysis by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) which warned that Afghanistan risks losing up to 20,000 women teachers and 5,400 healthcare workers by 2030 amid continuing restrictions on girls’ education and women’s employment in the country.

India and Italy expand defence ties, explore deepening industrial cooperation

New Delhi, April 30 (IANS) India and Italy explored prospects for further developing industrial cooperation in the defence sector during a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in New Delhi on Thursday. Both ministers discussed ways to further develop mutually beneficial defence industrial cooperation under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat programme and Italy’s defence cooperation initiative.

UAE left OPEC due to low size of oil quota: Ex-envoy Navdeep Suri

New Delhi,  April 30 (IANS) The UAE had been thinking of leaving the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) cartel for the last five years as the oil quota allotted to the country by the Saudi Arabia-dominated group was not considered sufficient, according to Navdeep Singh Suri, India’s former Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
