New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) In a thrilling finish to the tape, Army Sports Institute’s Gopi Thonakal pipped his teammate Srinu Bugatha to win the New Delhi Marathon crown here on Sunday. Gopi, who had set his eyes on the National Record (2:12) set by Shivnath Singh in 1978, finished in 2:14:40 to take the gold medal. It was just short of his own personal best (2:13:39) that he had achieved in 2022.

Lausanne, Feb 13 (IANS) The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of the World Athletics has banned India's K.M Rachna for 12 years for testing positive for a cocktail of steroids/prohibited substances. The 30-year-old Indian hammer thrower has been penalised for the presence/use of Prohibited Substances Stanozolol, Methandienone, DHCMT and Clenbuterol in tests conducted by the AIU and the National Anti-doping Authority (NADA) of India.

Monaco, Feb 6 (IANS) World Athletics, the global governing body for international track and field competitions, has ratified Kelvin Kiptum’s world marathon record of 2:00:35 set in Chicago last year. Kenya’s Kiptum became the first athlete to break 2:01 in a record-eligible marathon, taking 34 seconds off the world record at the Chicago Marathon on October 8, 2023, the World Athletics informed in a statement on Tuesday.
