Sri Lankan Minister expresses gratitude to India as INS Gharial carrying assistance reaches Trincomalee

Colombo, Dec 9 (IANS) Amid India's relentless relief and rescue efforts under the ongoing Operation Sagar Bandhu, Indian Naval Ship (INS) Gharial carrying 700 tonnes of food items, essentials and clothing from Tamil Nadu has reached Sri Lanka's Trincomalee. Sri Lanka's Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra received the consignment and expressed appreciation for India's swift assistance.

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) The Lok Sabha on Tuesday saw heated exchanges during a debate on election reforms, with Congress MP Manish Tewari and BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal exchanging barbs over the credibility of electoral practices and the history of political manoeuvring in India. Jaiswal claimed that the earliest example of “vote-chori” occurred in 1947, when Jawaharlal Nehru was appointed Prime Minister despite most members of the Congress Working Committee supporting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for the position.

IndiGo operations stabilising, airline being held accountable: Naidu

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the operations of low-cost carrier IndiGo are stabilising and all other airlines continue to operate smoothly across the country, adding that no airline will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance or non-adherence to statutory provisions.
