Irregular crossings at EU borders in 2023 highest in 7 years

Brussels, Jan 17 (IANS) Some 380,000 irregular border crossings were detected at the European Union's (EU) external borders in 2023, a 17-per cent rise from a year earlier and the highest annual total since 2016, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) said.

New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Amid chaos over flight delays and cancellations due to adverse weather conditions, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday allowed airlines to cancel flights that are likely to be delayed beyond three hours, an official said, adding the aviation watchdog has also issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
