Opinion Poll: No clear majority for any party in Haryana, Maha, J'khand; BJP holds edge

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) According to an opinion poll conducted by Matrize survey agency and broadcast by Times Now on Friday, no single party is currently poised to secure an outright majority in Haryana, Jharkhand, or Maharashtra if Assembly elections were held today. The projection for Maharashtra, which has a total of 288 Assembly seats, indicates that the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition holds a slight edge, although the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is expected to trail closely behind.

Doctor rape-murder: Mamata defends Kolkata Police a day after HC orders CBI probe

Kolkata, Aug 14 (IANS) A day after the Calcutta High Court questioned Kolkata Police over its investigation into the ghastly rape and murder of a woman doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital here last week, and handed over the probe into the matter to the CBI, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday defended the city's police department, describing it "one of the best in the country".
