Mumbai, April 14 (IANS) Actor-filmmaker Rajat Kapoor has consistently pushed the boundaries of conventional cinema with his power-packed performances. As he steps into the world of “Khauf”, he says it feels like a 'big shift' for him.
Rajat spoke about what drew him to the upcoming horror series Khauf and why this character is unlike anything he has ever portrayed.
Talking about his role in Khauf, he shared, “The character is unlike anything I’ve done before. All I knew was, when I got the call and read the material, I was genuinely excited. It felt like a big shift for me—a real departure from what I’ve done in the past.”
The actor found the reading material very thrilling.
“Before meeting (director) Pankaj and (creator) Smita, I read through the material they had sent me, and just reading it was thrilling. I actually felt a tingling sensation up my spine, which doesn't normally happen. I was extremely hooked and was already very excited about my role,” he added.
“Sometimes, a role can get diluted or not live up to your expectations, but this one was quite the opposite. The shooting experience, the costumes, the makeup – everything elevated it further. This is one of the few projects I've worked on that I'm really looking forward to. I don't usually get this excited about my work, but this one is truly exciting,” he added.
Marking Smita Singh’s debut as a creator and showrunner, Khauf is executive-produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil under the Matchbox Shots banner.
The eight-part series, which is directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan, also features Monika, Rajat Kapoor, Abhishek Chauhan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Shilpa Shukla in key roles.
The series follows Monika’s character Madhu, a young woman who relocates to what seems like an ordinary hostel room in a big city, hoping for a fresh start. However, things get eerie as the trailer unfolds, which shows a sinister presence lurking within the hostel’s walls. Amidst the haunting, a shaman arrives, promising to rid her of the darkness.
Khauf will premiere on Prime Video on April 18.
