Oslo, Norway: Norway Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Norway visit has been highly fruitful and significant, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years. He said PM Modi received a very warm welcome in Oslo and emphasized that Norway deeply values its close partnership with India, which is now the world’s most populous country and is expected to soon become the third-largest economy globally. He described India as an innovative nation and an increasingly important global partner in a rapidly changing world. Speaking about business and economic cooperation, Eide said both Indian and Norwegian delegations were satisfied with the outcomes of the business roundtable meetings held during the visit. He highlighted the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Norway as a key focus area, aimed at promoting economic growth while protecting the environment. According to him, the partnership focuses on renewable energy, efficient energy use, sustainable resource management, and building a circular economy to support “green growth.” He added that advancements in green technology are making sustainable energy more affordable and attractive, while also reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. On the Indian economy, the Norwegian Foreign Minister praised India’s rapid economic growth and long-term progress. At the same time, he stressed the importance of ensuring that growth remains inclusive and environmentally sustainable so that more citizens can benefit from development. He said countries across the world are increasingly recognizing the need to combine economic progress with environmental responsibility and social inclusion in line with global climate goals.
