Delhi: In an exclusive interview with IANS, Joao Rui Ferreira, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Economy, spoke about the growing strategic and economic partnership between India and Portugal, highlighting opportunities in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, startups, AI, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure development. He said Portugal sees India as a major global economic power and emphasized that both nations can build a strong long-term partnership by combining Portuguese expertise with India’s ambitious growth plans under Vision 2047. Ferreira also stressed the importance of the proposed India-EU trade agreement, calling it a major step toward creating stable and predictable business relations. Speaking about startups and technology companies, he described Portugal as a gateway to the European market, offering strong digital infrastructure, skilled talent, and business-friendly policies for Indian investors. He also highlighted Portugal’s leadership in renewable energy and AI infrastructure, including investments in data centers and clean energy systems. Ferreira further expressed hope for stronger connectivity between the two countries, including the possibility of direct flights, which he said could transform bilateral trade and tourism relations.
