Quetta, Jan 4 (IANS) Pakistan's Balochistan witnessed a rise in enforced disappearances, an escalation of state repression, and further restrictions on political activists in 2025. The forcible disappearance of students, political activists and relatives of people related to Balochistan resistance continued and the cases of enforced disappearances of women have increased in Balochistan, local media reported on Sunday.

Surprise checks at gold-silver shops in Gujarat; 253 cases of irregularities found

Gandhinagar, Jan 4 (IANS) In a drive to protect consumer interests and ensure transparency in trade, Gujarat's Legal Metrology Department conducted a statewide surprise inspection of nearly 370 gold and silver shops and jewellery showrooms on January 2 and 3. The operation led to 253 prosecution cases across 25 districts and the on-the-spot recovery of Rs 6.79 lakh as compounding fees, officials said.
